Designing For Good

Map of United States with ESR image collage #ESR20

You know that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you help somebody with directions, buy a coffee for the person in line behind you, or donate to your favorite charity?

Empire State Ride

In 2016, I watched my friend and former Madison Square Garden colleague ride his bike across the great state of New York to raise funds for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Institute in something called the Empire State Ride. I was blown away by his accomplishment and, having grown up in Western New York, I was already familiar with the amazing work that Roswell Park has been doing in the cancer research field. The very next year I joined the ESR in a seven day, 550+ mile journey from Staten Island to Niagara Falls. The experience was life-changing and I knew that the next year I had to do more.

Before my legs had even recovered, I was asked to join the 2018 Steering Committee. I responded with an explosive “YES!” and volunteered to manage design and marketing for the 2018 event, including designs for the primary and alternate jerseys. I mentioned this at the next Strong Studio staff meeting and, despite being the only avid cyclist in the room, the designers all enthusiastically asked to help. It gave everyone a chance to do some good and also take a break from our “typical” design projects and create something purely from the heart.

Here we now are in August 2020 and ESR just wrapped up its annual ride. It was Strong Studio’s third year designing the jerseys, full kit (that’s bike speak for shorts, jersey, gloves, cap, and sleeves), and other marketing and promotional materials. I am honored and humbled to donate our talents for such a worthy cause, and I will never grow old of seeing our design on the hundreds of dedicated cyclists who ride each year - over 200 riders in 2020!

Warm Fuzzies

Strong Studio is proud to design for not-for-profit and bio-tech clients who are changing the world for the better, and of course our pro bono work for the Empire State Ride and individuals. If you know of a great organization that could use our team’s passion for doing good, please send them our way!

Thank you.
