Start-up bakery Pie In The Sky makes delicious gluten-free pies in Colorado. We make their sweet graphic design in New York City.
The visual materials for this small gluten-free bakery had an outdated look which failed to convey the premium quality of its products. In order to grab customer attention in larger supermarkets and specialty stores, the brand's tone and voice needed a sophisticated and delicious look.
Strong Studio evaluated Pie In The Sky's market positioning both locally and nationwide before embarking on a full brand overhaul. We began by updating the logo to a modern, sophisticated mark that still retains a touch of whimsy. Next we tackled the packaging for the pies, which are the cornerstone of the company's business. New packaging highlights the fresh and gluten-free ingredients and establishes a cohesive look across the entire product line. This visual language is carried over to all of Pie In The Sky's outward communication.
Since updating our packaging, sales have grown over 50%.
Strong Studio applies left-brain creativity to the right-brain world of the New York Academy of Sciences, to help advance science, technology, and society worldwide.
The New York Academy of Sciences asked Strong Studio to update their print materials with the goal of creating a modern, clean and cohesive design. With 20,000 members ranging from college students to retired scientists from 100 countries, the Academy needed a look and feel which would speak to a wide audience while retaining core branding elements.
Strong Studio revamped the Academy's brand with a more modern typeface, color palette, clean layout and page hierarchy. One of the challenges was the absence of dynamic photography. Strong Studio responded by creating supporting infographics and icons to add visual elements to the page and punctuate the dense text. Strong Studio continues to work with the Academy on a daily basis, updating and maintaining the refreshed brand.

Since its launch in 1998, the New York Times Store has continued to grow into an important revenue-generating brand extension. In an effort to appeal to a broader market and elevate the shopping experience, the Store asked Strong Studio to update the look and feel of its online marketplace as well as its print and digital advertising.
Beginning with a Holiday Gift Guide, Strong Studio revamped the Store's print and digital holiday campaign with a polished aesthetic that organizes eclectic offerings in a clean, modern environment. We then extended the look beyond the holidays to the daily newspaper and digital advertising including e-blasts, web banners, and multi-page print advertisements. Strong Studio continues to work with The New York Times Store on new product development.

Matthew founded Strong Studio in 2006. Prior to establishing the company, he served as the Senior Creative Director for Madison Square Garden, overseeing and creating season identities for the New York Knicks and New York Rangers as well as designs for Radio City Music Hall. He began his professional career at SME Branding where he helped develop and extend brands for the NFL, NBA and MLB.
In 1999, Matthew graduated from Pratt Institute with highest honors from the Communications Design department where he has been teaching Package Design and Graphic Design since 2004. Matthew is also a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA).
Linda is responsible for the day-to-day project and budget management, working with the design team on brand consistency and workflow. Linda is also Strong Studio's in-house copywriter, creating headlines and establishing brand voices for several of Strong Studio's clients.
A graduate of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, Linda began her career designing print and environmental graphics for the arts and entertainment industry. She later obtained her law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law where she specialized in intellectual property law. After several years as a litigator, she returned to the design industry to help manage and grow Strong Studio.
When not hiking all fifty-nine National Parks, Kate can be found reading on the PATH train. She made her dreams a reality by adding a Corgi to her cat collection.
Christina is fluent in both English and Sarcasm. When not catching up on reruns of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Christina can be found dancing around like an idiot and cutting cake into freakishly even slices.
Sam arrived in NYC via Michigan. He has an affinity for hip hop, pop punk, fancy socks, comic books and can out-quote you on "The Office." That's what she said.
Austin from Austin is a southern belle who delights in water coloring, iced coffee, and unpronounceable pastries.
TJ hails from South Korea but also spent some time in Orange County. No, he does not know any of the Real Housewives. He enjoys spending his New York minutes anywhere that has cold beer and live jazz music.
Megan hails from wilds of Connecticut where she enjoys hiking in the great outdoors. Now that she’s in the Big City, she just picks a direction and starts walking until she hits the water.
Endearing yet ultimately a little creepy, Ramen has abnormally large ears and a vocal range that rivals a teething newborn. She likes string. I mean, she REALLY likes string.
